Student Admission Notice
Students are accepted on a priority basis according to their Fire Department or EMS System affiliation
  • Active members of a fire department or government-based EMS system will be given priority admission consideration
  • Non fire department applicants, those affiliated with a private EMS or ambulance company and others are accepted on a "space available" basis
 
Paramedic
800 hours (Approximately 9 1/2 months)
 
All persons interested in registering for a Paramedic class must apply with the EMS Education Department, meet all admission requirements and successfully complete a Class Entry Examination.
 
Class Start Dates
  • 1 Unit Day Class - January 4, 2012
  • 2 Unit Day Class - April 5, 2012
  • Night Class - August 16, 2012
  • 3 Unit Day Class - September 6, 2012

Admission requirements

  • Valid Ohio Driver's License
  • Valid High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Current Ohio EMT-Basic Certification
  • Current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider course completion card
    The course completion card must be valid for at least one year after class enrollment and acceptance
  • Class Entry Examination (Pretest) score of at least 75% successful (See dates below)
  • Satisfactory physical exam completed within the past (School provided form must be used)
  • Payment of tuition or payment plan approval no later than the first scheduled day of class
  • Proof of Completion no later than the first scheduled day of class:
    Basic level human anatomy and physiology consisting of at least 3 credit hours
Class Entry Exams
Potential students may take the Class Entry Exam on either of the dates below. Your exam score will be valid for 1 year from the date of the exam (i.e. you may take the pretest on any of these dates for any class that starts within 1 year).
 
Please arrive in the EMS Education Department, Suite 250, 393 E Town St, Cols OH 43215 no less than 15 minutes before the scheduled exam start time. Plan accordingly to accommodate potential travel delays, heavy traffic, etc. Potential students that arrive late will not be admitted.

  • June 5 @ 1000-1230

  • June 7 @ 1300-1530

  • June 8 @ 0900-1130

  • June 13 @ 1800-2030

  • June 14 @ 1000-1230

  • June 20 @ 1400-1630

  • June 29 @ 1300-1530

  • July 5 @ 1000-1230

  • July 11 @ 1100-1330

Application/Enrollment
Qualified applicants must complete an application and submit valid copies of your current Ohio EMT-B or EMT-I certification card, current BLS Healthcare provider card, Ohio driver’s license and high school diploma or GED certificate. Application and late fees may be paid by a money order or  cashier's check made payable to Grant EMS Education.

Clinical Rotation Requirements
  • Emergency Department - 150 hours
  • ICU/CCU - 16 hours
  • Pediatrics - 24 hours
  • Operating Rooms - As Available
  • Psychiatric - 8 hours
  • Neonatal Intensive Care - 6 hours
  • Labor and Delivery - 24 hours
  • Paramedic Field Internship - 200 hours

Course Completion Requirements

Upon successful completion of all requirements, including class attendance, assignments, and examinations, field-based clinical rotations, hospital-based clinical rotations, and any other student/class requirements, the student may be eligible to sit for the Ohio EMS Certification Exam (National Registry).

All National Registry practical exams have open registration. Students outside of the Grant EMS Education Program may complete their testing at our test site. You must make a testing reservation and bring a government issued photo ID with you to the exam site.
